Photo Syntheses of Time #1 - 2010
Photo Synthesis of Time #1 is a reflection on the issue of time, and so forth on the related issues of perspective, memory and death, in Photography.
In the pictures the long exposure is condensed in one-standing-point images whose flawless surface doesn’t give any indication of the time passing by. The series is completed by a 10 meters long analogic photograph of the same subject (i.e. the light emitted by an enlarger during exposure) obtained by manually moving the negative in front of the open shutter of the camera.
Photo Synthesis of Time # 1 is a critique on the aesthetic of photography and its cryptic character which requires extremely advanced technical skills in order to be correctly interpreted.
On the other hand, a reflection on the medium cannot but reveal the photographer’s intimate relation with it. Hence the cyclopic machines seem to acquire eyes and personality, and the cross at the center of each board expresses my desire and commitment to the medium.
Specifications: 20x24inches black and white analogic prints from 6x7cm negatives, and 20x1000cm black and white digital print from scanned 35mm continuous negative
